Nigeria is set to host the prestigious GITEX technology fair for the first time in September 2025. This significant announcement follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and KAOUN International, the organizers of GITEX, during GITEX Africa 2024.
The MoU was signed by Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of NITDA, and Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of KAOUN International. This agreement paves the way for Nigeria to host one of the world’s largest technology fairs, showcasing its burgeoning tech landscape and innovative talents. During the ceremony, Hon. Adedeji Olajide “Odidi Omo” expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, stating:
“This is a monumental step toward positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global tech scene. GITEX Nigeria will provide an unparalleled platform for our local startups to shine on the world stage.”
The introduction of GITEX Nigeria is expected to significantly enhance productivity in critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and technology. It aims to attract investments and showcase Nigerian innovations globally. According to Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi:
“Hosting GITEX will not only diversify our economy but also create opportunities for Nigerian tech startups to connect with international markets.”
Hon. Olajide emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to harness the full potential of Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. He highlighted that events like GITEX Nigeria align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for economic diversification and technological advancement.
