Academic Staff of Union of Universities (ASUU), at the University of Ibadan, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso and University of Ilorin have set up monitoring teams to monitor the ongoing strike by the union.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Our correspondent gathered that the unions had a few days ago commenced a one-month warning strike.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Academic activities have been paralysed in the three universities as a result of the industrial action.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Lecturers in the institutions have continued to prosecute the one-month strike declared by their Union to pressure the government into signing the renegotiated conditions of service for lecturers among other demands.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
It was gathered that the universities which are in the Ibadan Zone of the union held their respective congresses presided over by their chairpersons.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The congresses resolved to set up monitoring teams to monitor the strike.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The congresses which were presided over by Professors Ayo Akiwole (UI), Olaniran Abiodun (LAUTECH) and Moyosore Ajao (UNILORIN) agreed to set up the monitoring teams with an intention to ensure that all members obey the directive of the union.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Akinwole noted that demands of the union include the signing of renegotiated agreements which bother on the salaries and conditions of service of lecturers, mainstreaming of earned academic allowances and releasing of white paper report on federal government visitation panel among others.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
He noted that the strike monitoring team will ensure total compliance.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
\u201cOur members feel the pain and have shown commitment to the struggle. They know it is for us to fight for our destinies and be better treated after staying on the same conditions of service for thirteen years despite the hardship in the country.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
\u201cThe same lecturers who are giving second to nothing still struggle to put the name of Nigeria on global ranking of universities despite poor investment in education by the federal government.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
