As 2023 elections approaches, many have continued to call for the reelection bid of the Oyo state governor, \u2018Seyi Makinde.<\/p>\n
Speaking on a current affairs programme, IMPACT POINT on IBR 92.3FM on Monday, the immediate former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Diran Odeyemi emphatically said that contesting against Governor \u2018Seyi Makinde come 2023, both in the party\u2019s primary and in the gubernatorial election, will be an effort in futility.<\/p>\n
Justifying his assertion, Prince Odeyemi disclosed that the governor has the power of incumbency coupled with his excellent performance in governance, which are already speaking for him.<\/p>\n
He went further upon the host\u2019s questions, to analyse the political developments in Osun, saying that it is foolhardy for anyone to think Governor Gboyega Oyetola would lose the APC primary last weekend in the circumstances that surrounded the exercise, just like no one can confront Governor \u2018Seyi Makinde in 2023 because of the power of incumbency which he wields.<\/p>\n
In his words, \u201cWho ever thought Gboyega Oyetola would lose the primary is making a big mistake and it is just like someone thinking \u2018Seyi Makinde will lose a primary in Oyo state\u201d.<\/p>\n
When asked whether his advice is for anyone who is contemplating to contest the PDP governorship primary to jettison such, he answered in the affirmative.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe power of incumbency is there and it will always count for the governor,\u201d he added<\/p>\n
Speaking further, the Osun state born politician extended the scope of his argument, saying with the popularity of Governor \u2018Seyi Makinde and his achievements in office, it will be difficult for the opposition to dislodge him in any election.<\/p>\n
According to Odeyemi, the People\u2019s Democratic Party is not foreclosing the possibility of having the former Governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola in its camp but added that the most important thing to his party now is how to conduct it\u2019s primary.<\/p>\n
He berated the aggrieved PDP members in Osun state who warned Governor \u2018Seyi Makinde against undue interference in Osun PDP affairs, saying \u201cIf the Oyo Governor wants to win more governorship seats for the PDP, he must interfere as the Leader of the party in the South-West.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
