Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, has stated that he will celebrate his birthday in Saki, as he did last year.
\nThe Governor announced this earlier today during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in advance of the upcoming general elections.<\/p>\n
Makinde mentioned that other regions in the state had tried to persuade him to celebrate his birthday in their zones, but he had decided to do so in Saki.
\nIn his words: \u201cI have been in Saki town since yesterday. This isn\u2019t the first time I have slept in Saki. I will still be back here in Saki. Other zones are even jealous of this town. They tried to convince me to move my birthday celebration to their zone, but I refused. I will be back in Saki before the 25th of December to mark my birthday here in Saki\u201d<\/p>\n
Governor Makinde also stated that the purpose of his visit to Saki was to meet with stakeholders from both the party and the community about important issues ahead of the 2023 elections.
\n\u201cThis is a town hall meeting, and I will be back for the campaign. We will flag off our campaign on January 5, 2023, in Mapo, Ibadan, then we will move to Igboora then we will move from Local Government to Local Government for the campaign.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe visit yesterday was amongst the PDP stakeholders to resolve our issues. I\u2019m glad that our efforts and reconciliation are yielding positive results.
\n\u201cToday\u2019s town hall meeting is between us, artisans, market leaders, and traditional institutions to deliberate.\u201d<\/p>\n
Governor Makinde stated that he visited the Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho road project on Tuesday morning for a spot assessment and that the contractor in charge of the construction will return to the site to begin laying asphalt before December 25th.<\/p>\n
Makinde also stated that his administration is committed to finishing the project and will not back down from its promise to deliver high-quality construction. He said: \u201cAmong the few things mentioned, one pertinent issue is the construction of the Saki-Ogbooro-Igboro road. I have already visited this morning for a spot assessment of the situation.\u201d
\n\u201cDrainage costs more in road construction. At least 30% to 40% of the total budget for road construction goes to drainage. If drainage isn\u2019t fixed and asphalt is laid, once rain falls, the road gets bad in a short time.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me assure you that for any road constructed by this administration, for 15 to 20 years, the road would be as solid as when it was completed. I\u2019m an engineer. Once we are done constructing any road, we move to another.\u201d
\n\u201cSaki-Ogbooro-Igboho road that people are complaining of, the drainage system has been completed. What next is the laying of asphalt.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI have called the contractor in charge of the construction. We will have a meeting this Friday in Ibadan, and I promise you all that before I return to Saki to celebrate my birthday on December 25, the contractor will have been back to commence the laying of asphalt.
\n\u201cI want to implore us all not to be deceived. This administration initiated the Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho road project. We are the brain behind it. We started this project to link the biggest economy of Saki town to areas like Kisi, Igbeti, Ogboro and Ighoho to benefit from the economic activities in Saki as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose who came to Saki to lie should be ignored totally.
\n\u201cWe started this road, and we will complete the Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho road.
\n\u201cI remember in 2015 when I came here to canvass for votes. The white I wore that day became brown due to the dust from the uncompleted Saki township project. I made a promise that day that if elected, I would construct the Saki township road. I fulfilled this promise after I was elected in 2019.
