The Chairman of the House Committee on Information Technology and Cybercrime, Hon. Adedeji Stanley, made this declaration during the inaugural meeting of the committee. He emphasized the pivotal role that this committee will play in advancing the nation’s IT landscape, leading it towards technological advancement on the global stage.<\/p>\n
Hon. Stanley stated, “Let us seize this opportunity to drive the information technology sector to the forefront of our national development. Our collective efforts will be geared towards ensuring that all sectors align with the information technology mandate, and we are committed to introducing legislation that will transform our nation into a true IT-driven powerhouse.”<\/p>\n
The committee’s jurisdiction encompasses a wide array of responsibilities, including oversight of the ministry responsible for communications technology, formulating a comprehensive national policy for compliance with communications technology, and liaising with other committees to promote and actualize information technology in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Hon. Adedeji Stanley stressed that the committee’s work will be instrumental in shaping a more connected and secure future for Nigeria. Their oversight extends to key entities such as Galaxy Backbone Limited, Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Nigeria Communication Satellite, National Information Technology Development Agency, and the Annual Budget Estimates, among others.<\/p>\n
