The Internet’s Remarkable Growth in Africa
Africa has witnessed a phenomenal surge in internet penetration over the past decade. The number of internet users more than doubled since 2010, reaching over 525 million users in 2020. Notably, Nigeria reported a substantial increase in active internet subscribers, reaching 154,847,901 in the fourth quarter of 2022, marking an increase of 12,876,341 subscribers from the previous year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Bridging the Digital Divide
Yet, amidst these promising statistics, Rep. Adedeji Stanley Olajide highlighted a persistent digital divide, both within countries and between them, restricting equal access to information, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
