In a crucial development, Hon. Stanley Olajide, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, has put forward a motion addressing the urgent need to curb the leakage of classified information and documents from security agencies.
Representing Ibadan North West/South West Federal Constituency under the PDP, Hon. Olajide voiced his concerns about the alarming rate at which classified documents are finding their way onto social media platforms. He emphasized the grave implications of this issue, which not only jeopardizes the safety of security personnel responding to cases of insecurity but also compromises security operations.
Hon. Stanley Olajide stressed that this issue is a national concern requiring immediate intervention. He urged a forensic investigation into the data storage infrastructure of security agencies to understand and rectify the vulnerabilities.
Furthermore, Hon. Olajide called upon the joint House Committees on Defence, Army, Navy, Airforce, and other relevant security-related agencies to collaborate on implementing a robust data storage mechanism for the nation’s security agencies—one that ensures the non-compromising protection of classified information.
The motion received unanimous support, was voted on, and subsequently adopted. It has been referred to the House Committee on National Security Adviser, National Security, Information and Technology, as well as the Committee on Defense. This step signifies a significant move towards bolstering national security by safeguarding classified information from unauthorized access and leaks.
