Odidiomo Honours Promise, Restores Molete Rider’s Livelihood with New Motorcycle

For a commercial motorcycle rider whose livelihood was disrupted by the violence at Molete, Ibadan, the arrival of a replacement motorcycle marks an important step towards getting back on his feet.

Hon. Adedeji  Stanley Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, has fulfilled his promise to replace the motorcycle stolen from the rider during the Molete attack, following an incident in which the victim reportedly sustained a serious head injury.

The intervention follows Odidiomo’s earlier commitment to assist people whose livelihoods were affected by the violence. For the rider, the replacement is more than a new motorcycle; it is an opportunity to return to work and begin rebuilding the income on which he depends.

Commercial motorcycle riding is a daily source of income for many residents of Ibadan. Losing a motorcycle can mean losing the ability to earn, meet household expenses and support dependants. When such a loss is compounded by a physical injury, the road to recovery becomes even more difficult.

By providing a replacement motorcycle, Odidiomo has taken a practical step towards addressing one of the immediate consequences of the incident for the affected rider.

The gesture also draws attention to the people whose lives are disrupted when political violence spills into the streets. Beyond the immediate confrontation, traders, transport operators and other residents can be left counting their losses, dealing with injuries and struggling to resume their normal activities.

Odidiomo had earlier expressed concern over the impact of the Molete incident and pledged support for affected residents, including traders who reportedly lost goods and transport operators whose motorcycles were stolen or damaged. The replacement of the rider’s motorcycle represents a follow-through on that commitment.

While assistance to individual victims cannot undo the experience or erase the losses suffered, it can provide practical relief and help people resume their livelihoods. In this case, the replacement gives the rider an opportunity to return to the road rather than remain without the equipment needed to earn a living.

The incident also reinforces the need for peaceful political engagement and the protection of residents going about their lawful activities. Political disagreements should not leave ordinary people bearing the cost through injuries, damaged property or the loss of their means of survival.

As the affected communities work towards recovery, accountability for the violence remains important. Those responsible should be identified through the appropriate process, while victims should receive the support needed to recover from their injuries and losses.

For the Molete rider, the replacement motorcycle represents a practical beginning: the chance to return to work, rebuild his livelihood and move forward after a painful experience.

By honouring his promise, Odidiomo has turned a commitment made in the aftermath of the incident into tangible assistance for one of those affected.
