The ancient city of Ibadan was cloaked in solemnity as news of the transition of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Dr. Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), filtered through the land on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Joining the chorus of tributes and mourning across Ibadan and beyond, the federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, fondly known as Odidiomo, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the entire people of Ibadanland.
In his tribute, Hon. Olajide described the monarch’s transition not as a loss, but as the glorious passage of a father figure, a cultural pillar, and a symbol of stability whose wisdom and royal grace defined a chapter in Ibadan’s storied legacy.
“In Ibadan, our kings don’t die—they ascend. Kabiyesi’s transition is a sacred moment for reflection, honor, and deep gratitude. His reign, though brief, was marked by dignity, maturity, and peace. We pray his royal soul finds rest, and may his legacy continue to inspire unity among Ibadan sons and daughters,” Odidiomo stated.
Oba Akinloye’s passing comes just days before the celebration of his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation. His departure, though sudden, leaves behind a legacy steeped in tradition, leadership, and fatherly wisdom.
Hon. Olajide further urged citizens to uphold the values the late Olubadan stood for — peace, dignity, and a shared commitment to Ibadan’s progress.
