It feels just like yesterday—the moment the news of Alhaji Abdullateef Akin-Tokunbo Olajide’s passing hit the airwaves. A year may have gone by, but for Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide, fondly known as Odidiomo, the memory of his late father remains as vivid as ever.
On Friday, April 12, 2025, the family home in Anfani, Off Ring Road, Ibadan, welcomed a gathering that was more than ceremonial. It was a coming together of dignitaries, family, political associates, Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and well-wishers, all to honor and reflect on the life of a man known by many as Baba LATO.
The late Alhaji Olajide, a revered community leader and astute businessman, passed away on the 12th of April, 2024, and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites. Widely known and loved for his philanthropy, humility, and deep sense of community service, Baba LATO’s legacy continues to inspire even in death. The one-year remembrance drew an impressive turnout of political heavyweights, Islamic scholars, traditional title holders, captains of industry, and grassroots leaders from within and outside Oyo State — a testament to the values and impact he left behind.
The remembrance began with special Islamic prayers and Qur’anic recitations at the newly built ultra-modern Lateef Olajide Central Mosque, a structure named in honor of the late patriarch. The atmosphere was deeply spiritual — soaked in memories, reflection, and love.
“My father lived with purpose,” Hon. Olajide shared with emotion. “He served, guided, and gave without seeking applause. His values remain my compass.”
Alhaji Abdullateef Olajide wasn’t just a father. He was a respected elder, businessman, and pillar of wisdom in the community. Stories flowed from guests about his quiet generosity, his business acumen, and his commitment to family and faith.
Attendees included family members, dignitaries, and close family friends — all united by love and respect for the man many called a father beyond blood.
The event also featured photo exhibitions, traditional music, and personal tributes, all painting a vivid portrait of a life well lived.
As the prayer and remembrance came to a close, one thing was clear: Baba LATO may have left this world, but his legacy continues — in the hearts of his children, the prayers of his community, and the service of his son, Odidiomo.
“May Almighty Allah continue to grant him Aljanah Firdaus,” Odidiomo prayed.
Because for the Olajide family and everyone who gathered, this wasn’t just a remembrance — it was a celebration of legacy, love, and the timeless footprints left behind.
