On Saturday, November 8, 2025, the Joint Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, led by Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu and Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide (Odidi Omo), held a one-day retreat in Lagos State to review and refine the National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill 2025 ahead of its public hearing scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Senate Conference Room 022, National Assembly Complex.
The Lagos retreat brought together top government officials, technology experts, and private sector leaders from across the nation, underscoring the importance of shared responsibility in shaping Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
The Bill seeks to:
•Strengthen legal certainty and public confidence in digital transactions and communications.
•Enhance public service delivery through increased ICT integration across government agencies.
•Promote transparency, openness, and accountability in governance through digital platforms.
•Establish a regulatory framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.
In his remarks, Hon. Adedeji Olajide (Odidi Omo) highlighted the retreat as a crucial step in aligning both legislative chambers and stakeholders ahead of the upcoming public hearing.
“This Bill is about trust, efficiency, and innovation — ensuring our digital space works for government, businesses, and citizens alike,” he noted.
The retreat featured active participation from the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Director-General of NITDA, and representatives from key government institutions including the National Communications Commission (NCC), Federal Ministry of Finance, and USPF.
Participants collectively emphasized the urgency of the Bill, describing it as a cornerstone for a safe, inclusive, and globally competitive digital Nigeria.
